Kantha Bopha Children Hospital

I have been to Siem Reap, Cambodia from 15-21 Jun 2011.

What can I say about this country? It is a very poor country, with lack of facilities. Daily household income is as low as US$0.50 (~RM1.50 per day). Imagine that!!

These places will come into tourist's list when visiting Siem Reap:
  1. Angkor Achaeological Park, which include the famous Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Phrom (where Tomb Raider is being filmed)
  2. Tonle Sap Lake, perhaps the biggest Lake is South East Asia
  3. Floating villages, eg Kampung Phluk, Chong Kneas..
Well, there is a great place that I would like to share, that is the Kantha Bopha Children Hospital. I visited Jayavarmann VII together with my friends (4 pharmacists, 3 doctors, 1 dentist, 1 nutritionist). What is so special about this place?Dr. Beat "Beatocello" Richner performs free concerts at the Jayavarman VII hospital in Siem Reap on Friday and Saturday nights. The evenings include songs, played on his cello, and talks on the health crisis in Cambodia. The main objective is to create awareness of the current situation in Cambodia. All the children will get free treatment. They get their funding mainly from the individual from Switzerland, where even the president of Switzerland also make few trips to visit the Hospital. All this is done not for profitable reason.Problem that they face are:
  1. Poor families
  2. Lots of killer diseases (dengue fever, thyphoid, tuberculosis, malaria, etc..)
  3. Lack of funding
  4. Lack of blood
  5. Lots of poor quality drug (maybe they dont have bioequivalance to test)
I hope my blog reader can donate some money (even RM10 will help). Kindly visit this website

I have donated certain amount of money and also blood during the trip. 350cc of blood is all they need to help a few kids there.

Below are pictures of 3 male donator from Malaysia.
After visiting that place, it reminds me of appreciating the things, the people, the life that we live currently. Stop complaining everyday. We are much much better than people there.
